This is a new Web rendition of The Federalist, executed in June of 1987. It replaced the original version done in 1995. Both the Web version & the Shareware version are topics of on-going effort. The Last shareware version of The Federalist broke under Win95. I fixed the most glaring problem, but the full text search engine was not salvageable. I am currently working on a new version in Asymetrix ToolBook 4®, which will deliver the searching capabilities & a whole lot more.

If you've spent some time with the Web version, you'll see that I'm not done with it either. The "frames" design is very complex & not very stable. I need to spend some serious time with Javascript programming in order to get it to behave properly (if ever it will). However, with the current work on Account of a Declaration, the new shareware version of The Federalist, and several other projects in the planning stages, it may have to wait a bit.

Be looking for that new shareware version of The Federalist. It'll be a dandy!

There are problems with this Web version of The Federalist.

You cannot use the BACK button on you browser to navigate effectively, because three frames are updated each time you go to another paper. (You can hit the BACK button three times in order to set the frames correctly.) You should stick to the navigation icons across the top frame of the screen.

Secondly, this version only does Client Side Image maps. Server Side Image maps do not support frame targeting (sending the requested content to a particular frame in the browser) so I had to stick to Client Side Image maps only. The most popular browsers will handle this. Some older ones will not.

I'm working on better solutions, but it may take some time to achieve them. I made compromises in order to best represent the flavor & utility of the Shareware version of the product. —ToKind
