Shakira Sworn In During White House Ceremony

Last week, Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and record producer and dancer Shakira was sworn-in at an official ceremony at the U.S. Capital Visitor Center as a new member of the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

At 1 pm the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics had its second meeting at the White House. Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, then welcomed members of the Commission. After their first meeting, Shakira and the dozen other members of the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics then had an official swearing-in ceremony and a reception with community leaders.

The Commission, that Shakira is now part of, advises President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan about Hispanic success in education. Shakira has worked on many efforts to expand and improve the comprehensive early childhood care and education for Hispanics around the world.
